Description

1996 Canada Cased Proof Silver Dollar Commemorating the 200th Anniversary John McIntosh's Arrival in Canada.

John McIntosh arrived in Canada in 1796 and settled in Ontario. Issued to pay tribute to the originator of Canada's most important commercial apple.

The McIntosh, McIntosh Red, which is colloquially known as the Mac is an apple cultivar, the national apple of Canada. It all started when John McIntosh immigrated to Canada in 1796 and discovered the original tree. Through the years, his sons and grandson oversaw the transformation of the apple from a locally celebrated specie to an iconic commercial orchard unit. Celebrate 200th anniversary of McIntosh Apple with this 1996 John McIntosh Sterling Silver Coin. The reverse design is created by Canadian artist Roger Hill and it depicts the contributions of the McIntosh company to the country's agricultural and horticultural growth. The obverse comes with an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pedery-Hunt.
