Human history is filled with stories of legendary warrior people, who fought and conquered their enemies through the skilful use of weapons and their superior battle tactics. Ghengis Khan's Mongol army was the dominant military force of the 13th century. Never very large, it was still effective and terrifying - fake withdrawals, surprise attacks, hostage-taking, psychological warfare and human shields were classic Mongol moves. Skilled horsemen and masters of the composite bow, and curved sabres, they could fire up to six arrows a minute and utilized several arrow and arrowhead designs. Light and heavy armour gave protection against attack, while allowing the flexibility required to handle their bows.
