2017 Australia $1 Australian Posters of World War I - Australian Home League Silver Proof Coin (TAX Exempt)
In 1916 the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) established the Snapshots from Home League of Australia, which aimed to raise the morale of those Australians serving in the First World War by supplying them with photographs of their loved ones at home. The Snapshots from Home League recruited amateur and professional photographers around Australia to donate their time and skills, while local YMCA centres coordinated sittings for those people wishing to send a photo to their loved ones overseas. These precious photos were then sent free of charge via the YMCA to troops in hospitals and on the front line in Europe and the Middle East.
This is the fourth coin in the Posters of World War I series which commemorates the work of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) who established the Snapshots from Home League of Australia in 1916, which aimed to raise the morale of those Australians serving in the First World War by supplying them with photographs of their loved ones at home.
Each coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
The coin's reverse features a coloured representation of the "Send them all snapshots from home" poster headed by the inscription AUSTRALIAN HOME LEAGUE. The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark, and the coin's weight and fineness also appear in the design.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 , each coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2017 year-date on its obverse.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the Australian Posters of World War I - Australian Home League 2017 1oz Silver Proof Rectangle Coin.
The coin is housed in a contemporary, latex case which displays both sides of the coin. The case is packaged within a beautifully illustrated shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
