A common sight from Newfoundland to British Columbia, the beloved black-capped chickadee delights observers with its friendly, inquisitive nature. Designed by Canadian artist Steve Hepburn, the reverse image features a beloved black-capped chickadee in an idyllic winter setting. With its inquisitive gaze fixed to the ground, this side profile of a chickadee showcases the light and dark contrast of its soft, thick feathers. Running across the coin is the chickadee's chosen perch: the snow-covered branch of a deciduous shrub. Five red Swarovski® crystal elements are beautifully integrated into the design as bright red berries hanging delicately below - one of the few splashes of colour amidst the whites and greys of a Canadian wintry landscape. Behind the chickadee, decorative snowflakes fill the background and add to the festive feeling.
