Description

2014 Canada $15 Maple Hologram - Maple of Longevity Fine Silver (No Tax)

The Royal Canadian Mint proudly celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Chinese Canadians with this beautifully intricate silver coin. The use of traditional symbolism in this Asian-inspired design conveys a blessing of longevity -one of the important life blessings in ancient Chinese beliefs- upon the coin's owner.

Canadian artist Simon Ng has artfully combined numerous Chinese symbols that traditionally depict "longevity" in the reverse image. At the centre, two cranes are viewed in profile as they stand with outstretched wings on a grassy mound. The revered birds are flanked by a pair of tortoises at the bottom left of the image, and two chrysanthemums - the flower of immortality - at the right. Stylized flowers that bloom throughout the seasons surround these symbolic elements, thereby extending this blessing for the entire year. The foremost crane's outstretched wings and neck encircle a selective hologram of a maple leaf above it.
